Miscellaneous Troubleshooting and Questions

Are you browsing a local file (file://) rather than an HTTP connection (http://)?

If you accessed the Sambar Server home page using the 'Open File...' or 'Open Local...' command of your browser then you are not invoking the Sambar Server and will not be able to access any Sambar Server features (such as administration).

Check the URL displayed at the top of your browser. If it is prefixed with file:// then this is the problem. Reconnect to the Sambar Server using the web server's address.

Is there a way I can use spaces in my page names?

You can use filenames with a space in them by replacing the space in the URL with '%20' (without the quotes). For example: http://localhost/this%20file.htm

Is there a way in the [agentdeny] section of security.ini to match "no agent" string ?

Any of the wildcard entries in the security.ini can be set to the keyword "null" which will match the absense of a corresponding value.

How can I ensure access to the server is only available during certain hours (i.e. 9am to 5pm) ?

The server can be "paused" during non-operational hours using the server RPC /session/sysmgmt?action=pause and then "unpaused" using the RPC /session/sysmgmt?action=unpause. To automate this action so that the server is paused automatically, use the Task Scheduler on the Services form in System Administration.

Why might my server be shutting down at 2AM every evening ?

One possible cause is Microsoft's anti-spyware (Windows Defender). This and other anti-spyware products can mis-identify software unknown to them as spyware and kill it when they perform a system inventory. Microsoft's product is particularly aggressive at terminating non-Microsoft software. Fortunately, these products have a mechanism that allows you to indicate the Sambar Server service should be permitted to continue operation; this must typically be manually configured.

Why are "Sent" emails never copied to the Sent folder when using WebMail ?

The Norton Antivirus package inserts a SMTP proxy into all server operations. If enabled on the same platform as the Sambar Server, the Notron Antivirus can disable the Save to Sent functionality as well as other SMTP extensions utilized by WebMail and the ASP mail APIs. You should consider running a package such as Avast rather than Norton Antivirus on the Sambar Server platform.
